Mi Pequeña Luz School

Preschool through 9th grade

Mi Pequeña Luz School (MPL) provides education for some of the most underprivileged children in our area. Many of the enrolled children would have nowhere to attend school if it weren’t for MPL. We understand that a basic education is an essential ingredient for breaking the cycle of poverty; furthermore, the school provides an opportunity to minister to the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of the students’ families.

We are able to teach biblical principles while providing a complete primary education (up to 9th grade in Nicaragua) for more than 300 students. Currently, we do not have the capacity to provide education beyond 9th grade, but through generous supporters, we have been able to maintain an informal scholarship program to help the poorest families so that after 9th grade, their children can attend a different school to continue their education.

Scholarships

If you are interested in helping to sponsor a child attending our Mi Pequeña Luz School, a basic contribution of approximately $35 per month is sufficient to cover educational materials, nutrition, and basic and urgent medical needs. Please contact us, and we will provide you with the specific information and details for sponsoring a child. If you would like to help but cannot commit to sponsoring a child, we would love to receive general contributions for the school. There are recurring expenses, including construction costs necessary to expand the school.

Ending Biblical Poverty in Nicaragua

Bibles for Nicaragua is a project to provide the Scriptures free of charge to every family in Nicaragua. It is a collaboration among individuals, churches, and various ministries working together to achieve this goal. We are systematically going door to door, city by city, reaching every home. We believe that as the people of Nicaragua read and apply the Scriptures to their lives, their communities will also be transformed, and thus Nicaragua will be transformed and blessed.

Nicaragua is at a unique and providential moment. How so? For the first time in history, the majority of Nicaraguans can read. This is a fundamental condition for the Scriptures to have a full impact on society. Also, for the first time ever, all churches, including the Catholic Church, are encouraging and promoting believers to read the Bible.

Get Involved

1. PRAY
Join with other believers in your church and ask God to prepare the hearts of Nicaraguans to receive the Bible and for it to reach every family.

2. GO
Make arrangements to organize or join a short-term mission team focused on Bibles for Nicaragua, going door-to-door with Nicaraguan Christians, meeting people wherever they live, and sharing the gift that will change their lives forever.

This can be the most extraordinary experience. For more information, please contact us:  info@ywamnicaragua.org

3. DONATE
Bibles for Nicaragua subsidizes the cost of purchasing Bibles for churches and Christian ministries participating in the project. With three dollars, we can buy a Bible and deliver it to a Nicaraguan family that would otherwise have no access to the Scriptures. This is a tremendous investment in the future of a nation.

Ministerio de Niños

Friday Children's Ministry

This was one of the first ministries of YWAM Nicaragua. Its purpose is to teach children God’s Word from a very young age. Children from the neighborhood come to the base every Friday to worship the Lord and get to know Him better.

The ministry’s approach is to creatively tell Bible stories in chronological order.  This ministry has been in existence for 20 years; the entire Bible has been taught 10 times to different generations. This ministry has a significant impact on the community. Many of the children do not attend church because of their parents; the fact that YWAM is a ministry has opened the doors for many generations to hear the Word in a creative and more detailed way.

King's Kids Camp (KK's)

This camp is for children and teenagers, where they have the opportunity to encounter God, learn to listen to His voice, and discover how to lead a personal Bible devotional; they will also learn skits and choreography, hold mini-crusades to put what they’ve learned into practice, and share the gospel.

The Purpose:

  1. To equip children and youth to grow in their relationship with God, provide a solid biblical foundation, and motivate them to develop a Christ-like character through the personal application of God’s Word. â€‹

2. To challenge children and youth to get involved in evangelism, whether with YWAM or other ministries, to awaken in them a burden for the unreached, and to impart a vision to influence and impact all spheres of society while committing to strengthen the worldview of the body of Christ.

3. Help the child/youth understand more about King’s Kids and YWAM International, our values, our calling, and opportunities for service within YWAM.

4. Prepare the child/youth to serve the local church and their community.

Princes & Princesses Ministry

We meet once a week with boys and girls ages 8 to 14 from our Berlin neighborhood to teach them about their identity as children of God through the Bible, creative arts, dance, and sports.

Ministerio de Football

We believe that sports are a very effective way to reach young people! We have two teams made up of children and teenagers from the neighborhood, and our staff trains them to compete against other teams in Diriamba.

Community Development

The vision for community development at YWAM Diriamba extends far beyond El Barrio Berlín. It involves Christian education integrated with evangelism and discipleship through various projects that take place each week.

In addition to our “Mi Pequeña Luz” School, where we interact with the parents of 350 students in the community, we help build small homes for those in need and assist in starting small businesses.

House Construction - Project

We have been able to build about 25 small houses for various families in need in our neighborhood. Many families cannot afford to build a concrete house. With the help of donations and short-term mission teams, we are able to provide these families with better housing conditions.

Small Businesses

The small business project aims to support entrepreneurs looking to start a business, whether it’s selling coffee or setting up a small shop. All of these projects began in El Barrio Berlin, where our YWAM base is located; now, we’re expanding them to other cities where churches have asked for help.

This is part of the calling God has placed on YWAM Diriamba, and one of the ways we are impacting the seven spheres of society. Once a week, we hold sewing classes. Our hope is that the mothers attending these classes will start a small business that allows them to bring in additional income for their households.
