Course Overview
The Discipleship Training School is an intensive program designed to develop Christian character and prepare you for missions; it also prepares you for other types of ministry. It is a wonderful adventure with God that will change your life and give you the opportunity to know God more deeply, as well as His love for people!
The DTS consists of a three-month lecture phase at the YWAM Diriamba campus, where each week you will learn something entirely new, and two months of practical mission work (campaign) where you will put into practice what you have just learned.
Successful completion of an DTS is a requirement for long-term volunteer work with YWAM.
Teachings
Each week, we welcome guest teachers from around the world who have walked with the Lord for many years. They will encourage you in your walk with God and help you deepen your relationship with Him.

During the 3-month Lecture Phase, you will:
Spend Time with Jesus
Every morning, you’ll start your day by spending time with Jesus, what we call “quiet time.” It’s a time of devotion when you’ll be alone with God to learn to listen to His voice and be guided by the Holy Spirit. These are essential moments that will help you deepen your relationship with the Lord.
Small Group Discussions
Once a week, we set aside time for a small group meeting to help you understand the course material and answer any questions you may have. It’s also a chance to spend quality time with your classmates and staff members.
Intercessory Prayer Groups
As YWAM, one of our core values is intercessory prayer. We believe that prayer and intercession are key elements for missions and for the advancement of His Kingdom. You will learn to intercede for people, cities, and nations by standing in the gap for those who are lost and in need.
Evangelism Through Art Workshops
Evangelism through the Arts is a strategic way to reach the lost for Christ, whether in cities, schools, college campuses, parks, or even in small, remote towns. In our arts workshops, you will learn various methods of evangelism, such as painting, spoken word performances, musical dramas, and choreography. Our goal is to reach children, adults, and the elderly for the Kingdom of God.
Worship Times
At YWAM, we are committed to worshiping and praising God in every aspect of our lives. During DTS, we have times of worship as a school, and we also gather with our neighborhood community once a week.
Lectura Práctica
During the Theoretical Phase, you will be assigned books to read that will reinforce what you are learning in class during the week. Some of these books include: "Are You the Lord?" by Loren Cunningham, "Intimate Friendship with God" by Joy Dawson, and "God’s Fatherly Heart" by Floyd McClung Jr. You will also be assigned homework related to the readings and class topics.
Weekly Ministry
Our YWAM base is located in the Berlin neighborhood of Diriamba. We love the people here and are committed to “helping them come to know God.” As YWAM Diriamba, we have a school for at-risk children located on our base. You’ll have the opportunity to minister to the children, youth, and adults who attend our Children’s Ministry every Friday. Some of the other ministries we may engage in include door-to-door visits, visiting and praying for the sick in hospitals and parks, ministry at the garbage dumps, and distributing Bibles to eradicate biblical poverty in Nicaragua.
The 2-Month Outreach- Practical Phase
After three months of classes exploring the Heart of God, you will be able to put everything you’ve learned into practice during the Outreach. We spend one month on a crusade within Nicaragua and one month outside the country, whether in Central America, South America, or Europe, depending on God’s leading. We always pray about each crusade location for every DTS.
During this time, you will be involved in various types of ministries, including: door-to-door visits, outdoor evangelism, evangelism through creative arts, presentations in churches, and community service work. You’ll do everything from helping to build an orphanage, digging a well, playing with street children, praying for the elderly, and even helping a family earn money for their daily needs. This is an unforgettable experience that will change your life.
DTS Cost
The Cost of the School is divided 2 parts:
Lecture Phase Cost

$650.00 for Nicaraguans and $850.00 for Central American countries
This price includes a scholarship for Latino students. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage students from all over the world to participate in the training.
Outreach Phase Cost
The cost of the Outreach phase varies depending on the location, transportation costs, etc. We often conduct at least half of the Outreach phase within Nicaragua.
